By November 2018, it was was
clear that Mount Airy Toyota salesman Michael Brinegar was going to have
another record-setting year. The question was simply what his new record would
be.
In
2017, just a year after joining the Mount Airy team, Brinegar was
named a “Toyota PRO” (Professional Retail Outstanding Salesperson) — one of the
top 10 percent of salespeople in the Southeast Toyota Region who also is Toyota
Certified. He’d sold 215 vehicles.
Experts say that the best way
to set achieve any sales goal is to have a strategy — look at the market,
examine customer behavior, learn about the competition, seek new opportunities.
Brinegar, better known as Mr. B at Mount Airy Toyota, focuses
on one thing above all else.
“Be fair, honest, treat
people as you want to be treated,” Michael says. “Imagine you are on the other
side of the desk.”
Brinegar makes customer
service the cornerstone of every interaction. He enjoys taking the time to find
the vehicle that meets a customer’s needs and budget, whether it’s new or used and
whether they come in knowing exactly what they want or with no real idea at
all. He emphasizes that he’s there for his customers even long after the sale
has closed, always providing his customers with his personal cell phone number
and email address. He keeps notes to help him remember not just what kind of
cars each customer has purchased over the years but their special occasions
like birthdays. His dedication to customers has earned customers’ dedication to
him.
“When a repeat or referral
customer says, ‘Here’s Michael and I trust him,’ it feels good!,” Michael says.
Michael started selling cars
in 2015 and has only ever sold Toyotas. It’s a brand in which he believes — his
wife drives a RAV4 and he drives a Camry.
The Camry has been good to
Michael.
“My last car sold for
2018 was a new Camry and the first one this year was a new Camry,” Michael
said.
And what did that last
Camry of 2018 bring Michael’s sales total to for the year? 243. The 28
additional cars Michael sold marked a 13-percent increase over his 2017 total.
His units sold have put him among the top 100 of salespersons in the Southeast
Toyota Region.
“My ranking shows me
at 73,” Michael said.
What will 2019 hold for
Brinegar? There’s lots of potential with the release of new Toyotas.
