School’s
out, we’re halfway through the year, and the temperatures are rising—that’s
right, the summer solstice has passed, and it’s officially summer! Here in
beautiful Mount Airy, it is prime time to head out outside and soak up the sun,
and it’s no exception at Mount Airy Toyota; you can find us packing up and out
onto the golf courses, all to give back to our local community partners.
Mount AiryToyota is pleased to announce our participation in the Lions Quest 32nd
annual golf tournament fundraiser event this June. Read more on our
participation in this special event and learn about just one of the many
programs we support in the around the greater Mount Airy area. Giving back to
the community is what it’s all about, and we just love getting out there and
having some fun while we’re at it.
The 32nd
Annual Lions Quest Golf Tournament
Mount AiryToyota could not be more excited to share some news on their participation in
the 32nd Lions Quest Golf Tournament in Mount Airy, NC.
Where did the proceeds go, and/or
what organizations did they benefit?
Lions
Quest is a national organization that dates back to 1975, where the founder,
Rick Little, set out on a mission to help young people develop the skillset and
strength of character needed to succeed as an adult. Upon the success of the
program after its implementation with high school students, Lions Quest began
to initiate programs at middle and elementary schools to provide age-appropriate,
positive youth development programs.
Since
2002, Lions Quest has become an international organization that has awarded
more than 360 grants (totaling more than $20 million!).
The Lions
who serve Lion Quest are the key to supporting the program through local
funding, coordinating teacher training, co-hosting parent meetings, reaching
out and speaking to youth, and undertaking joint service projects with
students. The dedication and commitment to the service of its members has resulted
in the world’s largest service organization with 1.35 million members in 208
countries.
The direct
impact of the 32nd Annual Lions Quest golf tournament had all
proceeds go towards benefiting drug abuse prevention programs such as the DARE
Program in our Mount Airy schools, the Children’s Center of Surry, Inc., and
other community needs.
Where did it take place?
The tournament was held on Wednesday, June 5th at the Cross Creek
Country club in Mt. Airy, NC. The day began with a shotgun start at 9:00am. In
the chance of rain, the tournament was to be scheduled Wednesday, June 26th
at the same start time.
Entry fees
were only $75.00 per player, and this fee included green fees and cart, goody bags,
refreshments, lunch, and drawings for prizes. At the end of the round, lunch
was served to all participants. It was during this time that there were
drawings held for prizes, goody bag giveaways, and a refreshment cart making
rounds.
What were the awards?
The 1st
place award was $600 per team. The 2nd place award was $400 per
team. Teams that tied were played off by the scorecard. Golf Pro designated
which hole to start the playoff in the case of a tie.
To be
eligible for Grand Prizes on Par 3 Holes, all golfers had to hit from the White
Tees (including seniors and ladies). The first Hole-N-One on each Par 3 was
recognized as the only winner for that hole.
The Captain’s Choice was 4 player teams and 18 holes.
What were the tees played?
The tees
were as followed:
- Men – White Tees
- Women – Red Tees
- Seniors (65-74) – Gold Tees
- Super Seniors (75+) – Red Tees
